The FINE Ambassadors' & High Commissioners' Table hosted in the familiar environs of the Residence of the Ambassador of Finland to India in 2016 marked the fifth anniversary of the launch of the FINE Wine & Champagne India magazine. It was another opportunity for the friends of FINE to savour the treats that emerged from the cellars of Ambassadors and High Commissioners of various wine-producing countries. |
In 2016, the countries to present their wines were Australia, Austria, Canada, France (and Champagne), Germany, Hungary, Japan, New Zealand, Poland, Portugal, Spain. The special dinner was crafted by the very talented Peruvian chef, Enrico Tosso, under the watch of Mme Inkeri Siekkinen, the spouse of the Finnish Ambassador. |

|
|
Palliser Estate Martinborough Sauvignon Blanc 2013 (New Zealand)
A minerally nose and earthy aromas on this extremely expressive white wine that opened the evening perfectly. Matched by a zesty palate with hints of tropical fruits and vibrant acidity. |
Grace Cuvée Misawa Akeno Koshu 2014 (Japan)
One of the two white novelties. Showcasing lovely citrus and white stone fruit aromas. A fruity palate reminding of apples, complemented by a lingering finish. |
Jaworek Cha-re XIII 2013 (Poland)
The other white novelty, a rare blend of Chardonnay and Auxerrois. An expressive floral nose of white flowers and honey suckle. A rich palate of white stone fruits and some bananas, ending in a smooth finish. |
Hofbauer Heiliger Stein Grüner Veltliner 2013 (Austria)
Quince and citrusy aromas on this white. A minerally palate with nectarines and subtle hints of pepper, that has a long and refreshing finish. |
Juliusspital Würzburger Stein Silvaner Trocken 2014 (Germany)
The nose on this white wine displays a fruity nose (fresh apples) and hint of vanilla. The dry palate strikes a wonderful balance between acidity and illusionary sweetness from the fruit. |
Drappier Carte d’Or Brut NV (Champagne)
The rising bubbles create a lovely string of pearls. A beautiful nose of quince, ripe peaches, spice and hint of vanilla. A rich palate highlighting notes of biscuit and bread complemented by lively acidity. |
Tawse Laundry Cabernet Franc 2011 (Canada)
Ruby tints on this red wine, which was served at its peak. A nose dominated by red fruit (red cherries and tart raspberries) with hints of vanilla. The palate is marked by ripe dark berries and soft tannins. |
Château Martin Le Haut Saint Estéphe 2013 (France)
A bright Bordeaux red with purple tints, suggesting many years of ageing ahead. A constrained nose of red and dark fruits with hints of spice and forest undergrowth. A lean palate with some cassis and red berries and a rather short finish. |
Yalumba Old Bush Vine Grenache 2014 (Australia)
This easy-drinking red had a pale ruby hue. The burst of ripe red cherry aromas, give way to the underlying herbal & spice notes. The palate is fruity with smooth tannins, along with a refreshing acidic character. |
Torres Gran Coronas Reserve 2010 (Spain)
A depth in the colour, with hints of garnet on this red. An evolved nose going from jammy red fruits to tobacco (more reminiscent of a Cohiba). The lush palate reflects the nose, with strong hints of oak-ageing. |
Esporão Red Reserve 2013 (Portugal)
A deep garnet colour with purplish hues on this classic from Alentejo. A very expressive nose of ripe red and dark berries. The palate is bold with abundant berries and spice that were well rounded by grainy and mouth coating tannins. |
Erzsébet Pince Tokaji Aszú 6 Puttonyos 2010 (Hungary)
A treasured dessert reflected pale gold. Very complex yet expressive nose of honeyed fruits, spice and hint of blossoms. The sweetness on the palate was so well balanced by the acidity. On the palate, the offer ranges from candied peaches and ripe mangoes to honey and a hint of spice. |
A special evening, uniquely themed around the wines of the world. Some novelties, some gems, some classics vied for attention – privileged are the friends of FINE and friends of wine! |
This evening was hosted by Rajiv Singhal, Publisher of FINE (and vino india Chief Executive). |
