Enjoy, It’s from Europe

The Delegation of the European Union to India and Bhutan brought a delegation of food and beverage companies to India to be part of the European Pavillion at Annapoorna, the World of Food, Mumbai in its 2017 edition.
The meet
H.E. Tomasz Kozlowski and Hon’ble Minister Harsimrat Kaur Badal with
Damian Kaminski at the EU Pavillion
The Ambassador of the European Union to India, H.E. Tomasz Kozlowski, highlighted the collaborative efforts of Europe towards improving trade relations and working on acceptable food safety and security standards.
At the inauguration of Annapoorna 2017, the Hon’ble Ms. Harsimrat Kaur Badal, Minister of Food Processing Industries, urged international companies to set up permanent Indian operations as she assured better infrastructure and efficient/ effective trade policies.
And in this delegation were two wine companies – one from the Loire Valley in France and the other from Romania.
The Event
Halewood Wines & Spirits, Romania. A range of wines that surprised many – first that Romania is a wine producer, then that the wines covered such a wide range and finally, that the wines were quite good. The wines were, in general, well crafted, enjoyable and expressed the new style of winemaking based on the indigenous varietals.
Château Soucherie, France. The property in the Loire Valley, that belonged to the Duke of Brissac until 1952, is owned by the Béguinot family since 2007 and has an international presence through the Group Yabon. A classic which believes in quality, sustainable ecosystem and wines that truly represent the grape varieties and terroir.
The alcoholic beverages for the show were caught in the bureaucratic whirlpool of licenses and regulations that left the organisers completely at sea – they could not resolve the paperwork in time and the wines missed the inauguration and part of the first day. Wonder if the Minister could propose easier policies to reward those companies that still wish to prospect the Indian market for alcoholic beverages inspite of the conditions that are internationally acknowledged as very challenging!
